Which Mansfield Tree Lighting Actually Starts the Holidays This Year?

  • November 5, 2026

Mansfield will light three holiday trees this season, at three addresses, over 16 days. Mansfield ISD lights the first one on Thursday, Nov. 19. Geyer Commons downtown lights the second on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The City of Mansfield lights the third at City Hall on Friday, Dec. 4, which the Hometown Holidays calendar calls the kickoff to a month of events.

The calendar is the useful part. The "kickoff" comes after two trees are already lit, and it lands in the middle of the busiest four days of the season. The season itself is spread along East Broad Street and North Main Street.

Three trees, three hosts

Each lighting has a different host, venue and time of day.

Date Time Event Venue Address
Thu., Nov. 19 6–8 p.m. MISD Tree Lighting Ceremony and Concert Dr. Jim Vaszauskas Center for the Performing Arts 1110 W. Debbie Lane
Sat., Nov. 28 4–6 p.m. Geyer Commons Tree Lighting Geyer Commons 605 E. Broad St.
Fri., Dec. 4 5–9 p.m. Hometown Holidays Mansfield City Hall 1200 E. Broad St.

The Nov. 19 lighting belongs to Mansfield ISD. It's a ceremony and concert at the district's performing arts center on West Debbie Lane, on a weeknight.

The Nov. 28 lighting is the newest addition. Geyer Commons is the two-acre downtown park the city scheduled to open in February 2026, with event lawns, a pavilion, a lighted splash pad and space for a cottage market. According to its event listing, the late-afternoon lighting there is "brought to you by Texas Health Hospital." That makes it a two-hour downtown event on the Saturday of a holiday weekend, at a park that wasn't on the map last December.

The Dec. 4 lighting at City Hall is the one with fireworks. Visit Mansfield describes the evening as a tree lighting ceremony followed by performances, holiday light displays, photos with Santa and a fireworks show. The organizer's listing also mentions a holiday market, carnival rides, live performances and food, with more details still to come.

The City Hall night has held its shape for at least two years. The city's 2025 listing put Hometown Holidays on Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the same 1200 E. Broad St. address, with the tree lighting at about 7 p.m. and fireworks right after. The 2026 listings don't give a lighting time.

The split is more recent than that. In 2022, Mansfield ISD's performing arts center announced Hometown Holidays as a combined city and district program running four days, Nov. 30 through Dec. 3, at the Vaszauskas Center. The 2026 calendar keeps the shared name and the shared website but runs the district and city lightings as separate events, more than two weeks apart.

The kickoff lands in the middle of the busiest stretch

Because the City Hall night is a Friday, it sits in the middle of a four-day run. These are the listings on the Hometown Holidays calendar from Thursday, Dec. 3 through Sunday, Dec. 6:

  1. Thursday, Dec. 3. Toys for Tots, 5–9 p.m., at the Dr. Jim Vaszauskas Center of Performing Arts. The listing asks attendees to bring an unwrapped toy.
  2. Friday, Dec. 4. Hometown Holidays at City Hall, 5–9 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. the same night, the Fleetwood Project performs "All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914" at the Farr Best Theater, 109 N. Main St. The theater's listing says tickets will go on sale soon.
  3. Saturday, Dec. 5. The day with the most listings:
    • The Kiwanis Club of Mansfield's FALALALA 5K, 7:30–9:30 a.m., starting and finishing at RunUnited, 650 U.S. 287 Frontage Road.
    • Holiday at the House, 11 a.m.–3 p.m., at the Man House Museum, 604 W. Broad St. Admission is free.
    • The MISD Dance Spectacular, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., at the Vaszauskas Center, presented by Mansfield ISD Fine Arts. Tickets go on sale in early November.
    • Mistletoe & Masterpieces opens at Wallace-Hall Art House, 210 S. Main St., showing original work by local artists through Jan. 6, 2027.
    • "All is Calm" returns to the Farr Best Theater at 7:30 p.m.
  4. Sunday, Dec. 6. The Mansfield Women's Club 2026 Holiday Home Tour runs 2–6 p.m. and includes the Man House among its decorated homes. "All is Calm" closes with a 2:30 p.m. matinee.

That adds up to two straight nights with events at three venues, the Vaszauskas Center, City Hall and the Farr Best Theater, followed by two more days of events. The fireworks are the headline, and the Saturday after holds most of the season's options in a single day. A 5K morning, a free museum open house, a gallery opening and an evening show can all fit in one day without leaving town.

Main Street's theater keeps the longest calendar

City Hall gets one night and Geyer Commons gets a handful of afternoons. The Farr Best Theater at 109 N. Main St. shows up on the calendar more than any other venue, starting before Thanksgiving weekend ends:

  • "All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914," the Fleetwood Project. Nov. 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m., and a Dec. 6 matinee at 2:30 p.m. The listing calls it a true story told in the words and songs of the men who lived it.
  • Mansfield Live Opry. Friday, Dec. 11, 7–9:30 p.m.
  • "A Christmas Chaos," The Troupe Theatre. 7:30 p.m. nightly, Dec. 18 through Dec. 22.

That's 11 listed performances across four separate weekends. The rest of December's performance calendar is split among a few other stages. Art Ballet Academy presents "The Nutcracker" on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Vaszauskas Center. The Mansfield Philharmonic's Christmas Pops is Sunday, Dec. 13, 6–7:30 p.m., at First Methodist Mansfield, 777 N. Walnut Creek Drive. It's co-produced with First Methodist Mansfield Traditional Worship Arts' 60-voice choir, and admission is free.

Geyer Commons opens and closes the season

The new park has the season's first downtown tree, and it also has the last event on the calendar. Its listings run from the end of November through New Year's Eve:

Date Event Time
Sat., Nov. 28 Geyer Commons Tree Lighting 4–6 p.m.
Sun., Nov. 29 Tiny Turkey Market, a market of kid-run shops Noon–5 p.m.
Sat., Dec. 19 Jane Austen Day Tea Party, with crafts, classical music and literary trivia 2–5 p.m.
Thu., Dec. 31 Noon Year's Eve Baby Rave, with a countdown to noon 11 a.m.–1 p.m.

Every one of those is a daytime or late-afternoon event, and two are built for children. The tree lighting and the Tiny Turkey Market fall on back-to-back days of Thanksgiving weekend, so the park's first holiday weekend gets two separate trips. The Tiny Turkey Market listing says more details and shop applications are coming.

The event pages don't give parking directions. The city's Geyer Commons announcement lists these general options near the park:

  • On-street spaces
  • The public lot behind Sonic
  • The Mansfield ISD lot on weekends, during school holidays and summer break, and after 5 p.m.
  • Heritage Baptist's public lot
  • Other downtown public lots

Since the Nov. 28 lighting is on a Saturday, the MISD lot falls under its weekend availability.

Putting the three trees on one calendar

Taken together, the calendar is three short ramps that meet on East Broad Street. The district's lighting on Nov. 19 is the only one before Thanksgiving. Geyer Commons on Nov. 28 is the only one that starts in the afternoon, and "All is Calm" plays the Farr Best Theater on North Main at 7:30 p.m. the same evening. City Hall on Dec. 4 is the one with fireworks, and it shares its night with "All is Calm" and its weekend with the busiest Saturday of the season.

Ticketed shows are the items to book early. The MISD Dance Spectacular puts tickets on sale in early November, and "All is Calm" lists tickets as coming soon. Mansfield Live Opry and Art Ballet Academy link to ticket pages from their listings. Holiday at the House and the Christmas Pops are listed as free. Mistletoe & Masterpieces stays up at Wallace-Hall Art House through Jan. 6, 2027, the latest end date on the calendar.
